Dutch gambling rules, explained in English
Living in the Netherlands means looking at Dutch permission and protections, not only the country where a brand is based. This guide is general information, not legal advice or a guarantee of eligibility.
Verify operator licences in the Ksa Kansspelwijzer
Ksa and the Kansspelwijzer
The Kansspelautoriteit (Ksa) is the Dutch gambling regulator. Its Kansspelwijzer is the official starting point for checking gambling operators. Match the legal company, website and relevant permission rather than relying on a logo or a foreign licence.
Permission can change. WinBet does not claim a database update is a regulatory check. If a licence cannot be substantiated, a commercial referral must not be treated as approved.
Cruks and account verification
Cruks stands for Centraal Register Uitsluiting Kansspelen, the Dutch exclusion register. Registration blocks access to covered licensed gambling services for at least six months. Consult the official register for registration, extensions and the applicable procedure.
Operators have identification and player-protection obligations. They may ask for documents or investigate whether gambling spending is affordable. These checks are not optional benefits and do not mean the operator can guarantee a safe outcome.
Participation and advertising have different age rules
The minimum age for gambling participation is 18. Advertising protections apply more strictly to young adults. WinBet blocks under-18 access, allows editorial access for 18–23, and requires a separate active advertising choice from visitors declaring 24+.
Dutch online gambling advertising rules require demonstrable targeting and protection, including the 95% 24+ audience-reach requirement. Self-reporting on a website alone is not sufficient evidence. Ksa guidance for third-party platforms and affiliates must also be considered; this edition does not claim regulator or partner approval.
A practical order of checks
First verify the operator in the official register. Then read the game, payment and complaint rules. Finally consider whether participation is appropriate at all and whether limits or exclusion would help. Do not let a promotion replace these checks.
For disputes, retain the terms and correspondence and follow the operator’s complaint procedure. The Ksa provides regulatory information; it is not a promise that an individual dispute will be resolved in your favour.
Frequently asked questions
Does an English website mean international eligibility?
No. Language does not determine licensing or residency eligibility. This English edition concerns Dutch rules for residents of the Netherlands only.
Is a 24+ tick box enough for advertising compliance?
No. A self-declaration does not establish age or prove that the required proportion of advertising reach is 24+. Additional compliance assessment and evidence are needed.
