What makes a bookmaker legal in the Netherlands?

Since 1 October 2021, only operators licensed by the Kansspelautoriteit may offer online gambling to players in the Netherlands. The licence requires bookmakers to verify players’ identities, check Cruks (the central gambling self-exclusion register), offer adjustable limits and intervene when there are signs of risky gambling. The current list of licence holders is in the Kansspelwijzer at kansspelautoriteit.nl. That register is authoritative; this page reflects only our own records, which may lag behind.

What to check before choosing a bookmaker

A sportsbook that suits someone betting weekly on the Eredivisie will not necessarily suit someone who mainly bets live or on tennis. Check these points before opening an account.

Sports and betting markets

Look beyond the number of sports to the competitions you follow and the betting markets available for each match. Coverage of smaller competitions varies considerably between operators.

Compare odds

Odds vary by match and over time. WinBet therefore does not present snapshots as permanent features: always compare the odds directly with the operator just before placing a bet.

Limits and player protection

Every licensed operator lets you set deposit and gambling limits. Set them when you open your account, not later. To stop gambling altogether, register with Cruks, which excludes you from all licensed operators for at least six months.

Advertising rules and age limits

The minimum age for online gambling in the Netherlands is 18. Gambling advertising must not target young adults under 24: advertisers must demonstrate that at least 95% of the audience reached is aged 24 or over. Commercial content on WinBet remains disabled. Any future activation requires independently reviewed audience evidence, current operator checks and explicit approval, followed by a 24+ choice and advertising opt-in.
